After his wife’s car plunged into a river, Stacy Horton had an agonising decision to make: rescue her or their teenage son.

His wife Vanessa had escaped from the car but was crying for help as she struggled to keep her head above water, while their son Silva, 13, was still trapped inside the sinking vehicle.

With time to save only one, Mr Horton dived into the river.

“Keep bouncing, make those breasts work,” Miss Kitka says.

It’s 10am on a Saturday morning and I’m trying to get my nipple tassles to twirl. My burlesque teacher, Miss Kitka, or Rebecca Gale as her birth certificate reads, says it all comes from the legs.

With feet firmly planted on the ground I carry on bouncing. Looking down I see the two little red tassles, or pasties, starting to swing.

“Don’t look down,” Miss Kitka says.

Head facing forward, I build up speed. My tassles become airborne. They spin like propellers on an aircraft. A light breeze wafts across my face. My class mates cheer.

All six students, including myself, are new to the world of burlesque - a fancy form of striptease that has its origins in nineteenth century music hall and vaudeville.

UN official warns of more riots over food shortage

Food riots which have struck several impoverished countries could spread with shortages and high prices set to continue for some time, the head of the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said.
A combination of high oil and fuel prices, rising demand for food in a wealthier Asia, the use of farmland and crops for bio-fuels, bad weather and speculation on futures markets have pushed up food prices, prompting violent protests in a handful of poor states.
Jacques Diouf, director general of the Rome-based FAO, said yesterday during a trip to India that there was a growing risk of social instability in countries where families spent more than half their income on food.
“The problem is very serious around the world due to severe price rises and we have seen riots in Egypt, Cameroon, Haiti and Burkina Faso,” he told reporters in New Delhi.

North Korea threatened South Korea with destruction Sunday after Seoul’s top military officer said it would consider attacking the communist nation if it tried to carry out a nuclear attack.

“Our military will not sit idle until warmongers launch a pre-emptive strike,” the North’s official Korean Central News agency said. “Everything will be in ashes, not just a sea of fire, if our advanced pre-emptive strike once begins.”

The statement, issued by an unidentified military commentator, marked the third straight day of bellicose rhetoric from North Korea, which is angry over the harsher line South Korea’s new president has taken against Pyongyang since assuming office last month.

England win third test and series

Cricket: England has won the third test in Napier to seal a 2-1 series victory over New Zealand. Set 553 to win, the hosts were out for 431 shortly after lunch today, giving England a 121-run win. Young New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee top-scored with 77 not out, including nine sixes, and Ross Taylor made a belligerent 74. Monty Panesar took six for 126 for England, his seventh five-wicket haul in tests. New Zealand won the first test by 189 runs and England the second by 126 runs.
